Barrymore
Beach Hotel: Since Hurricane Georges blew across Antigua
in September 1998, The Barrymore Beach Club has undergone
a complete renovation inside and out, and has new furniture,
kitchens, and even a new beach bar. Located on a two-acre
parcel on Runaway Bay, this small private beach resort
is a kickback place for a peaceful vacation with no
planned entertainment. There are no phones and no air-conditioning,
but plenty of sea breezes for keeping cool. The newly-renovated
units have TV sets, toasters, coffee makers, microwaves,
and unique, modern furnishings. They are available in
the one and two-bedroom units as well as standard garden
view rooms. Outside there's a lovely small private beach
along peaceful Runaway Bay, and there is no pool. The
restaurant serves up reasonably priced fare in a causal
atmosphere. For more action than this peaceful haven
may afford, there are seven bars and restaurants within
easy walking distance, as well as a casino. There's
also a computer available for guest use at a small charge.
This is the kind of friendly, privately-owned place
that people tend to visit again and again.
